| TEXT: | “Hassaku” literally means August 1 in the lunar calendar. The festival is held before the arrival of the typhoon season to ensure sufficient rain, a good harvest and health. Entertainment includes sumo wrestling and a “Girl Mikoshi” (portable shrine) parade in the Arashiyama area during the day. “Sagano Rokusai Nenbutsu” will be performed at 16:00 in the shrine grounds, lit up by thousands of paper lanterns. |
