| TEXT: | The Kurama Fire Festival is one of Kyoto’s “Three Unique Festivals.” This historical rite depicts torchbearers being sent from the palace to the village by the emperor. With a call of “Shinji Fure,” young men with hair bands set alight their torches at precisely 18:00, lighting up the night sky as they shout out “Sairei Sairyo.” |
