TEXT:   Shoren-in Monzeki Temple, which is one of the five Kyoto Monzeki Temples of the Tendai sect, is an extremely noble temple. This year, the Mandala of Go-honzon (principal image) Shijoko Nyorai, drawn on an approximately 2-centimeter square scroll in Sanskrit letters (Boron) during the Momoyama Period (1568-1615), is open to the public. Shijoko Nyorai has been fulfilling its role of praying for the avoidance of natural disasters and wishing for peace and security in the Imperial Family since ancient times. Today, the importance of praying to Shijoko Nyorai is increasing, since we unfortunately experience many more disasters throughout Japan.
