| TEXT: | Kanko-sai follows another festival, Shinko-sai (Inari-sai), which takes place at the end of April. The Kanko Festival tours traditional manufacturing districts to offer its blessings. A procession of five mikoshi (portable shrines), followed by approximately 30 beautifully decorated floats, begins at 14:00 and takes about two hours to reach Kyoto’s Ujiko district. After receiving jinku (Buddhist offerings) from monks at Toji Temple, the festival arrives at Fushimi-Inari Shrine. At 16:00, goshinji (the Shinto object of worship) is transferred from the mikoshi to the main shrine to safely complete the event. |
