| TEXT: | Kamogawa Odori is one of Kyoto’s most stunning events of early summer, when the city’s greenery is at its best. This event was first held in 1872 in the hope that Kyoto would prosper after the transfer of the capital to Tokyo. It was organized as part of the first Kyoto Exposition with the aim of attracting tourists. The festival is over 100 years old, and is well known in Japan and overseas as a Kyoto annual event. The city is very proud of its sophisticated beauty. This gorgeous and dazzling theatrical performance and tea ceremony by geiko and maiko create the perfect Kyoto atmosphere. The event is now an essential part of Kyoto’s early summer. |
