The largest nirvana picture in Japan is open to the public at the temple on February 15 under the lunar calendar, when Buddha is said to have died and entered into Nirvana. This picture was drawn by a monk Meiyokokan Shonin in the mid-Edo period (1603-1867). It is 16 meters length, 8 meters wideth, and 400 kg weight, which makes this picture the largest in Japan. |
