| TEXT: | Tourin-in, a Myoshin-ji temple, is also known as the “Temple of Paired Sal Trees.” In the temple’s grounds, there is a spectacular 300-year-old tree standing 15 meters high and with exposed roots some 1.5 meters in circumference. In the rainy season, white blossoms cover the branches of the tree. A flower memorial service and an incense appreciation ceremony are held on June 12. As part of the special night visit held during this period, the “Sal Twilight” event offers visitors the chance to enjoy lantern illumination, biwa concerts, and Buddhist vegetarian cuisine prepared by monks. |
