| TEXT: | Yumi-hikihajime, or first archery contest of the year is held at the Sanjusangen-doTemple, where archers compete in shooting approximately 60 meters to the end of the Sanjusangen-doTemple. It is just impressive to see the excellent technique of shooting over such a long distance. It is said that this contest started in the Keicho period (1596-1615), and is also called “Toushiya (long-range archery) of Sanjusangen-do. ”The sanctum is open to the public on the day, and visitors can receive purified water poured through a willow by the head monk of the Myouhou-in Monzeki Temple to share the merits. |
