| TEXT: | It is an ancient custom in Japan to dedicate swords and daggers for praying and supplicating the gods and buddhas. Such practices came from some religious ideas, such as that swords possess human souls or symbolize esoteric Buddhist deities, including the fierce-looking Fudo-myouou. In this New Year’s exhibition, swords and daggers from Kyoto’s famous temples and shrines are presented. Through these impressive items, feel the profound history of the temples and shrines in Kyoto. |
