| TEXT: | Unryuji in Temple is a branch temple of Sen nyu-ji Temple. At the back of the right-hand side of the temple after passing through Sennyuji Daimon Gate, one finds Reimei-den, where the ancestral tablets of four succeeding Emperors in the Northern dynasty are placed, and Hon-do (main hall), designated as one of the important cultural properties. The black statue of Daikokuten (God of Wealth) made in the Kamakura period (1192–1333), placed in Kuri (temple’s kitchen), has been called “Hashiri Daikoku” (running Daikoku) because of the humorous figure putting his left foot in front. As the training place for Shakyo, it has an impressive history of approximately 600 years. Anyone can experience Shakyo without a reservation. They also have a shakyo trial program for visitors everyday serving with green tea and sweets. |
