| TEXT: | Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple is famous for its Nenbutsu Dance, which is believed that Kuya Shonin had started to wish for relief when epidemics spread in Kyoto. Since dancing activity with praying in a group were the subject of suppression by policy makers in the Kamakura period (1192-1333), people needed to dance in secret after dark. This is why they still perform Kuya's Nenbutsu Dance at sunset today. |
