| TEXT: | There is an annual custom of making a pilgrimage to six jizo temples on August 22 and 23 to pray for family prosperity and protection against evil. It is believed that by holding a “Mizu Touba” service for a recently departed soul on the first Bon festival, and continuing the practice for the following two years, will enable the soul to skip the six states of suffering through which living beings transmigrate. The six jizo of the pilgrimage are Fushimi Roku Jizo (Daizenji Temple), Toba Jizo (Jozenji Temple), Katsura Jizo (Jozoji Temple), Tokiwa Jizo (Genkoji Temple), Kuramaguchi Jizo (Jozenji Temple), and Yamashina Jizo (Tokurinan Temple). |
