Reisai, which is also known as the Kitano Festival, is one of three great festivals held thrice yearly. The parishioners, farmers from Nishinokyo, donate summer vegetables and pray to the god of agriculture. It is considered to be the most important festival as it is held on the very day when Emperor Ichijo organized his first imperial festival in 987, the first year of the Eien era.
