| TEXT: | Sennichi Mairi, literally “one thousand visiting days,” begins on August 9 and continues through a period most favored by Kannon, one of the Buddhist deities. One visit during this period is said to be the spiritual equivalent of 1000 visits to the temple. Special viewing is possible between Aug. 14 and 16. Visitors can make a donation to the temple by purchasing a candle that is then lit in the temple’s inner sanctum. A Buddhist memorial service will also begin on Aug. 14. |
