| TEXT: | The construction of Nijo Castle started in 1603 as a residence for Ieyasu Tokugawa, the founder of Tokugawa Shogunate. Some remains of Fushimi Castle were added to complete the castle during the reign of Iemitsu Tokugawa in 1626.
The festival’s theme is “Spectacular and Elegant Nijo Castle in autumn.” Various events are held over some two months. This year’s highlights include a chrysanthemum exhibition (Oct. 20 – Nov. 18) in which some 470 large-size chrysanthemums are used to decorate the famed Kara-mon gate. A demonstration of matchlocks is held on September 23 at 11:00, and again at 14:00. |
