TEXT:   Founded in 1482, Ginkakuji temple was originally a palace known as Higashiyamadono of the eighth Ashikaga Shogun, Yoshimasa. Yoshimasa was following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Yoshimitsu, who built Kinkakuji temple. The sunset-lit Ginkakuji and the panoramic view of Mt. Higasihyama’s autumn leaves in the fall are spectacular. The famous drawings by Buson Yosa and Taiga Ikeno on Hondo's sliding doors are open for public viewing only during this period. Dojinsai, a four-and-a-half-mat room said to be the oldest tea-ceremony room, in Togudo (a National Treasure) is also open to the public during this period.
