| TEXT: | Goou Shrine, also known as Inoshishi (boar) Shrine, holds a ritual to pray for the sound health and prosperity of its worshippers. Held on the first day of the boar in October (month of boar) of the lunar calendar, it is a recreation of the Inoko rice cake ceremony, which used to be an annual imperial court event during the Heian era (794-1185). On the day of the festival, the Inoko rice cake pounding ceremony will be held at around 5 pm, followed by a dedication of the rice cake to the imperial palace. The cakes will then be served to visitors. From the palace, which is illuminated at night, visitors can view the picturesque scenery, which resembles that of a Heian scroll. |
