TEXT:   Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art is located inside Okazaki Park in Sakyoku district, where many cultural sites, including Heian Jingu Shrine, can be found. Kyoto and Modern Japanese Painting will explore what kind of roles the Kyoto art scene and the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art have played in the history of modern Japanese art by presenting some 120 masterpieces that appeared in Bunten, Teiten, and Shinbunten exhibitions. Works by Shoen Uemura, Keigetsu Kikuchi and Heihachiro Fukuda, who were active from the Meiji to Showa eras, will be shown.
