TEXT:   There is free parking at the top of Higashiyama Driveway. If you walk from there for about 100 meters north, you will find Shogun Mound Dainichido Hall, which is the enclave of Shorenin Temple. Within the grounds is the Shogun Mound. It is approximately 20 meters in diameter and two meters high, and is said to contain the remains of a shogun. The burial was conducted by Emperor Kammu (737-806), who wished for peace in the capital city Heian-kyo, which he had just built. From the temple, visitors can see Kamogawa River below. There is a panoramic view of Mt. Hieizan, Kitayama and the Nishiyama mountains.
