| TEXT: | Sennyuji is one and the only imperial family temple to have the moniker mitera, or “imperial temple.” The Sanzonbutsu (three images of Buddha), created by Unkei, is dedicated as a main image within the Buddhist sanctum. The picture of a dragon painted on the ceiling by Tanyu Kano is also very well-known. A statue of Princess Yang Kwei-Fei as the Kannon Goddess stands within the temple grounds, attracting many female visitors who pray for beauty and a good husband. The annual chrysanthemum dedication showcases large chrysanthemum flowers, as well as bonsai, cascade, 24 flowerbeds with large plants, and 230 potted chrysanthemum. |
