The Aigo festival is held on Children’s Day to pray for the prosperity of all children. Nature is abundant in the shrine grounds, and visitors can admire the tachibana (a kind of citrus flower) and their fresh scent during the festival season. Tachibana are widely appreciated and appear even in the famous Japanese song "Koi-nobori no Uta,” which is about the carp-shaped flags traditionally flown on Children's Day. Delicacies such as Tachibana-shu (sake) and Tachibana-gashi (sweets) are made at the shrine from the fruit of the ukon-no-tachibana tree. These treats are on sale at 1,000 yen each. |
