TEXT:   Beautiful ikebana arrangements and soft lantern lights decorate the Higashiyama walking path.  Starting at Shoren-in Temple in the north, about 2,400 street lanterns illuminate a pathway through Maruyama Park and Yasaka Shrine, on to Kiyomizu Temple in the south, creating scenery that is both fantastic and serene.  Ikebana arrangements strategically positioned along the path further add to the beauty.  Temples and shrines along the route are also illuminated during the event.  In the separate Takeakari / Yugen-no Kawa event, some 1,000 lanterns made of green bamboo are set afloat on Yoshimizu, a stream running through Maruyama Park.  The lights afloat on the water make an especially memorable sight.
