| TEXT: | Fujinomori Shrine, known for its war and horse deity, has two hydrangea gardens. In an area of 5,000 square meters, some 40 kinds of hydrangea and a total of 3,000 shrubs can be enjoyed for about a month from early June. Various events are held during the opening of the hydrangea gardens. The Hydrangea Festival takes place on June 15 starting at 10:00. Flowers, tea and a Shinto dance are dedicated to the gods. On June 17, a kemari (a traditional game similar to soccer) ceremony takes place. Following the Edamari-no-gi (branch-ball ceremony) held at 13:00, eight players play kemari with a deer-skin ball. |
