| TEXT: | On doyo no ushi no hi (day of the ox in midsummer), traditionally the hottest day of the year, a “foot-dipping” ritual is held at Mitarashi Pond at Shimogamo Shrine. It is said that dipping the feet into Mitarashi Pond is effective in purifying oneself of evil, curing illnesses, and easing the delivery of babies. Visitors of all ages pray for good health at this event. |
