| TEXT: | This grand festival hosts worshippers from branch Inari shrines all over Japan. They gather to offer prayers in appreciation of the deity’s daily blessings. The Manto (ten-thousand lanterns) ritual is held during Yoimiya (eve of the festival) on July 21, and stone lanterns and thousands of paper lanterns light up the shrine’s grounds and Inari mountain. In addition, some 400 paper lampshade drawings by Japanese-style painters are exhibited in and around the shrine’s outside oratory, while the Motomiya dance is performed in the open space in front of the Sanshuden hall. |
