TEXT:   Yada temple in Teramachi Sanjo was originally built as a branch temple of Yata temple in Nara prefecture (Yata-mountain Kongosen temple). It is said that Yada temple was moved to the present location in 1579 (the 7th year of the Tensho Era). On the day of the Pumpkin memorial service, the resident priest holds a Buddhist memorial service from 10 am, praying for good health. A pumpkin for prayer is offered in front of the main building of the temple and visitors stroke the pumpkin and pray for expelling all kinds of diseases including palsy. The first 1,000 visitors can enjoy boiled kabocha (pumpkin) for free.
