TEXT:   It is said that during the Edo Period, stalls began to line up in Toji Temple on 21st (the monthly anniversary of Kobo Daishi's death). Among the year-round monthly event, the one on December 21 is specially named "the Shimai (year-end) Kobo Festival." Lots of visitors and tourists from around the country throng to the shrine for this annual year-end event. Various kinds of stalls are crammed in the precincts of the temple, selling everything from flowering kales and salted salmon wrapped in straw for New Year's Holidays to daily goods and antiques.
