TEXT:   This year marks the 135th Miyako Odori dance performance, a seasonal tradition in Kyoto. The dance is held at Gion Kobu Kaburenjo every year around the time of the spring cherry blossoms. The performance first began in 1872 at Matsunoya in Gion Shinbashi Kobori as an additional exhibition to the Kyoto Expo, where the talents of 53 dancers and musicians were showcased. Being one of the most famous entertainment areas in Kyoto, Gion Kobu is proud to present the spectacular Kyomai dance performed by geiko and maiko dancers. Attend the event and feel the coming of spring.
